Everybody approaches skincare for a different reason – some people are looking to correct or improve certain skin defects; other people are looking to spend some time on their own as a ritual to begin and end their day. Both these reasons are beneficial to our health and our well-being. Here are some arguments why you should start your own skincare routine.
Here are some tips to start your skincare journey:
It is hard to introduce both morning and evening skincare routines, start by one of them. Usually, an evening routine is easier to follow. Start with one product and gradually (every 2 to 4 weeks) increase the number of products you use in your skincare routine: start with a gentle cleanser, then add a toner, follow with a moisturizer, treat Yourself with a face mask every Sunday, add a serum, introduce an eye cream, indulge Yourself with face oils as a part of your evening/night routine… Make sure not to rub and not to deform your skin while applying skincare products, apply them with gentle light movements. Do not rush into introducing acids and exfoliators into your routine as your skin needs a longer time to build tolerance to them. A gentle cleanser to keep your skin healthy and a sunscreen to protect it are the must-have of any skincare routine.
Skincare as a way to improve your skin
Skin is the biggest organ in our body, it constantly performs multiple functions from breathing and controlling our body temperature to eliminating toxins. Taking good care of our skin is therefore key for our overall health. The most important factor for improving our skin is persistence. Skincare routines are like vitamins, you need to take them regularly following a clear scheme to get the desired results. The same goes for skincare, you need to follow a routine to get a pleasant reward in the form of beautiful skin. Generally, it takes around 28 days to completely renew your skin so whenever you start, it will take on average 28 days for the first results to be visible. After this time, your skin cells will be replaced with new and healthy ones. Actually, 28 days (4 weeks) is also the average time to create a new habit. Hence, the first 4 weeks are the hardest, but afterwards, taking care of your skin will become natural and simple, so do not give up! Believe in Yourself!
Skincare to boost your self-esteem
Skin is not only our biggest and most visible organ. It is a vehicle for our identity. It is one of our biggest sources of concerns and stress. How many of us were late in the morning because of an unexpected break out? How many times you woke up and your under-eye bags revealed the hours of sleep you were missing? And we are not even asking how much time you spent to hide all these 😉 Adopting skincare will build a buffer, increasing your skin resistance. A skin well taken care of tends to recover faster even after the longest parties and shortest nights of sleep. It will lose water slower and react less to environmental changes. By building your skincare routine, you will exchange time of selfcare for longer hours in bed by avoiding time spent on hiding imperfections.
Skincare to put aside quality time with Yourself
Let’s be honest, it does not matter where we live or what we do, all of us can attest to the world moving too fast, and we often find ourselves in a constant chase after time. Take a moment to center yourself everyday… And that’s right, why not do it in your bathroom! A place where you already spend time every morning unwillingly brushing your teeth before starting your day and every evening before falling into your cozy bed. Why not extend this selfcare time just by some extra minutes and make it a quality time? A lot of great ideas come to people in the shower – a moment when all our worries become a little bit less obvious, and we relax. You can do the same with skincare! Use it as a moment of meditation, treat it as a home spa, give yourself some love while you self-massage your face with a cleanser, take out all daily worries with a toner and refresh yourself with a moisturizer (and an SPF in the morning). Breath deep, eyes closed and slow down. Do you already feel better?
